VW T7 Commerce Plus vs Commerce Pro: Which Should You Choose for a Campervan?
If you’re looking for a new VW T7 campervan, you may be comparing Commerce Plus and Commerce Pro base vehicles. But what do those names mean for your finished camper?
The choice starts with the equipment in the van itself. Your conversion package then determines the living space, including the bed, furniture, kitchen and camping equipment.
This article offers a practical comparison to help you work out what matters and which extra features are worth considering when choosing between the two trims.

Base vehicle trim and conversion package are separate choices
The terms Plus and Pro describe the Volkswagen T7 base vehicle. They don’t tell you which camper conversion has been fitted.
That distinction matters when comparing listings. A Commerce Plus camper could have a conversion that suits your needs perfectly, while a Commerce Pro camper might have a different layout or equipment package.
If you see “Pro” in a camper listing, ask whether it refers to the Volkswagen trim, the conversion package or both. Compare the base vehicle and living area separately before assessing the overall price.
What does Commerce Pro add?
Volkswagen’s UK brochure lists the following additions for Commerce Pro diesel panel vans over Commerce Plus diesel panel vans. This is a selection of relevant differences, rather than a full equipment list.
Feature | Commerce Pro addition |
Mirrors | Power-folding function |
Windscreen | Heated front windscreen |
Seats | Heated seats |
Cab temperature | Automatic air conditioning |
Phone charging | Wireless charging |
Connections | Three additional cab USB-C charging ports |
Wheels | Alloy wheels |
Driving assistance | Additional adaptive cruise, blind-spot and camera features |
Which extras would you actually use?
Rather than choosing a trim because it sits higher in the range, think about the features you’d value on a normal journey.
Mirrors and parking equipment
Electric folding mirrors can be convenient when parking or negotiating limited space. Ask to see the controls and check the camera and parking-assistance equipment fitted to each van.
Try these features during a viewing. Their usefulness will depend on where you drive and park, as well as your own preferences.
Heated seats and windscreen
If your camper will also be an everyday vehicle, cold-weather comfort may matter as much as it does in your car.
Heated seats and a heated windscreen are features worth considering if you regularly set off on winter mornings. If you mainly plan fair-weather trips, they may sit lower on your wish list.
Check which seat equipment remains in the finished conversion, particularly if the passenger seating has been changed.
Automatic cab temperature control
Automatic air conditioning lets you select a temperature and have the system regulate the cab conditions. Decide whether that convenience matters to you compared with manually adjusting the controls.
Cab cooling is separate from the camper’s living-area heating and electrical setup. Ask what each system does rather than assuming the vehicle’s climate controls will provide overnight cooling when parked.
Charging and connectivity
Wireless charging may be convenient if your phone is compatible and you prefer fewer cables. Additional charging ports may also be useful when travelling with several devices.
Check the finished camper as a whole. Your conversion may include separate sockets and charging points in the living area, so the cab provision is only one part of the picture.
Can a Commerce Plus have extra equipment?
Yes, individual vehicles may have factory options beyond their standard trim equipment.
That doesn’t mean every Highlife Commerce Plus T7 van has the same options. Ask for the equipment list for each available camper or proposed base vehicle.
If you only want one or two particular features, discuss whether a suitably optioned Plus is available. Compare its complete price and specification with the Pro alternative before deciding.
Is Commerce Pro worth the extra cost?
The answer depends on the actual price difference and the features you’ll use.
Commerce Pro may appeal if several of its additions are important to you. A Commerce Plus may suit you if it meets your driving requirements and leaves more of your total budget available for the conversion specification you want.
Compare similar vehicles wherever possible: the same age, condition, gearbox and broadly comparable conversion. Differences elsewhere in the specification can make a trim-only price comparison misleading.
Ask for a current, itemised quote that makes the base vehicle, conversion, extras and VAT treatment clear. Historic price differences won’t necessarily reflect today’s available vans.
Three questions to ask before choosing
What equipment does this exact base vehicle have? Request the written specification, including factory options.
Which features will matter on my trips and everyday journeys? Separate essentials from preferences.
What conversion is included in the total price? Check the layout and living equipment alongside the vehicle trim.
The right choice is the camper whose driving features, living space and total cost work together for you.
